Traffic density on european waterways in 2013
The majority of European inland waterway transport activities takes place in the Northern-Western part of Europe. In the Eastern part of Europe, the river Danube has an especially important function for the port of Constanta and transport between various regional centers along the Danube. Germany, Netherlands and Belgium serve as major IWT transit countries for East-West and North-South transports.
